ABOUT US

Mission Statement:
5 Tool Sport LLC will provide rehabilitation professionals with quality educational opportunities via collaborative and informative course content in an effort to advance the field of sports medicine.

​At 5 Tool Sport, we aim to be the leading provider for sports-specific continuing education content across the spectrum of sports rehabilitation professions.  We appreciate the need for quality material that offers the sports rehabilitation specialist an industry-leading edge when it comes to treating and caring for high level athletes.  We strive to utilize the highest quality evidence-based information when presenting our content.  5 Tool Sport understands that a quality educational experience comes from informative presentations, hands-on laboratory sessions, collaborative visual demonstrations, and a superlative entertainment experience unparalleled by other programs.

Our goals are centered around creating common knowledge across disciplines and promoting 
multi-disciplinary education within sports and sports medicine.

MEET THE TEAM

CORBIN HEDT, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS
Co-Owner/Founder
Executive Director of Operations


Corbin is a physical therapist currently practicing in Houston, TX with Houston Methodist.  Corbin obtained his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Texas Woman's University.  Soon thereafter, Corbin obtained residency-training from Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Sports Physical Therapy Residency program.  He currently serves as residency faculty and mentor to current residents as well as leading research efforts as the Physical Therapy Research Coordinator for the department.  Corbin has extensive experience in sports rehabilitation and takes special interest in return to sport paradigms, sports-specific treatment strategies, and the youth population.

Corbin has had the opportunity to work alongside athletes at all levels and with prestigious organizations such as the Houston Astros, Houston Texans, Houston Dynamo/Dash, Rice University, Houston Rodeo, Houston Ballet/Orchestra, as well as the Houston Fireballs Power Soccer club.  

Active in research and evidence-based education, Corbin has authored/co-authored several publications within the realm of sports rehabilitation.

MATT HOLLAND, PT, SCS, CSCS

Matt is the manager of physical therapy and sports medicine for Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports medicine, the official healthcare provider for the Houston Astros, Houston Texans, Houston Dynamo, and Rice University. He manages four outpatient sports medicine clinics that provide physical therapy and hand therapy services, and he specializes in shoulder and elbow injuries in throwing athletes. Furthermore, Matt oversees the Sports Physical Therapy Residency program offered by Houston Methodist as the Residency Director. Matt earned his Master of Physical Therapy from The University of Texas Health Science Center in 1998, his B.S. in Health Care Sciences from the same in 1996, and his B.S. in Biology from Louisiana Tech University in 1996. He also completed his sports fellowship under Dr. Robert Donatelli in 2007.

BRETT HOLLAND, PT, DPT, CMPT, CSCS

​Brett graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Kinesiology, and earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Texas Woman’s University in 2014. While attending UT Tyler, Brett was a two-time All-American pitcher on the baseball team, setting numerous team and conference records. He was drafted after his junior season by the Oakland Athletics(2008) and then drafted and signed by the San Diego Padres in 2009. Brett spent one season with the Padres organization before having shoulder surgery. Rehabilitation following surgery brought forward a new passion for physical therapy and helping young athletes return to sport.

Brett currently practices as a Clinic Director with ATI Physical Therapy in Frisco, TX. Prior to joining ATI, Brett was employed by Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, where he worked closely with the team physicians for the Houston Astros and Rice University. He had the privilege of treating numerous overhead athletes from the adolescent to professional level. Brett also worked with the head athletic trainer for the Houston Astros to develop a shoulder maintenance program for throwing athletes. Brett has presented multiple lectures targeted towards treatment of overhead athletes.

DERRICK NILLISSEN, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS

Derrick is a physical therapist, board certified Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).  Derrick is currently practicing in Houston, Texas with Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.  Derrick was a student-athlete who played basketball at Iowa Wesleyan University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. He then earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Carroll University of Wisconsin.   Following completion of physical therapy school, Derrick completed a Sports Physical Therapy Residency program with Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Derrick has had the privilege of working with various sport organizations including: Rice University, Houston Texans, Houston Dynamo/Dash, and the Houston Ballet/Academy. Derrick has experience working with athletes of all levels and takes special interest in plyometrics, sprinting/running mechanics, return to sport topics, and overhead athletes.

J MICHAEL HENRY, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS, CF-L2
Instructor

Michael’s physical therapy journey is pretty typical - grew up playing sports, then graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Finance. After a quick detour in the Army with 2 tours in Iraq, a year working for a Fortune 500 company, 2 years of PT school pre-reqs at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN, Michael earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2014 from Washington University in Saint Louis. Michael is also a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. 
 
In addition to his clinical work, Michael has been involved with CrossFit since 2007 and is a Level 2 (L2) Crossfit Trainer. His main focus is on trainer education, community education, injury reduction programs, and working to remove the stigma associated with CrossFit and make it a sustainable fitness program.

SPENCER COLE, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS
Instructor


Spencer is originally from Michigan, where he received his Bachelor’s in Science in Kinesiology from Michigan State University. He went on to receive his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Duke University. Spencer completed his orthopedic residency training at Proaxis/ ATI Physical Therapy in Greenville, SC before moving to Texas.
 
Spencer is currently practicing in North Texas as the founder and owner of Vivid Performance Physical Therapy. At Vivid Performance Physical Therapy, he specializes in treating the golfer with performance based physical therapy, and online golf fitness training programs. In addition to his practice, he is currently in the process of completing his manual therapy fellowship with in Dallas, TX.

JUSTIN TALLARD, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS
Instructor


Justin graduated from and played soccer at Loras College in Dubuque, IA with a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Science and Spanish in 2014. He earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2017, and completed a sports physical therapy residency at Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports in 2019. He is a board certified sports clinical specialist, and certified strength and conditioning specialist currently practicing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

LUKE NOVOSEL, PT, DPT, SCS, USAW
Instructor


Originally from Pittsburgh, Luke obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of Pittsburgh where he was a scholarship Division-I baseball athlete.  He earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh in 2018, and completed a sports physical therapy residency at Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in 2019. He is a board certified sports clinical specialist, certified strength and conditioning specialist, and level 1 USA weightlifting coach currently pursuing a Masters in Athletic Training degree at Boston University.
